Barbara Lefler
Barbara Lefler, LDA Director of Affiliate Services, gave us an interview on June 4, 2005. In the interview, she talks about what it was like to raise a son who had a reading disability, and how she got involved with LDA.
Jack M. Fletcher, Ph.D.
We have an interview with Jack Fletcher, which we recorded on June 14, 2005. He is currently a professor in the Department of Pediatrics and associate director of the Center for Academic and Reading Skills at the University of Texas Houston Health Science Center. Dr. Fletcher specializes in serving children and adults with disabilities in attention, oral language, learning and emotional and social development, dyslexia, spina bifida, traumatic head injury and mental retardation. He is also an expert in the content and interpretation of the IDEA and has participated at all levels of implementation, ranging from interdisciplinary team meetings to various levels of mediation. He was a member of the President's Commission on Excellence in Special Education.
The interview is divided across four pages:
- Page one gives some introduction to Dr. Fletcher's background and his work.
- Page two contains some comments on the impact of his work, and in particular on how he sees the role of evaluation.
- Page three takes up some issues with respect to treatment.
- Page four talks about training and resources that are needed.
