| What is this symbol? |
Depending on who you ask, "RSS" stands for "Really Simple Syndication" or for "Rich Site Summary." It is an easy way of distributing news headlines on the Web. Many newspapers and blogs use RSS to alert people to changes in their content.
We hope to use RSS to let people know when changes have been made to our website, as well as to keep people up to date on LD-related news. It is an easy way for us to promote our website and its content without the need to advertise.
How is it used?
If they have an RSS reader installed on their computer, people can subscribe to an RSS feed simply by clicking the orange RSS button found on many websites.
Where do I get software?
On my Mac, I use NetNewsWire Lite, which is available for free from http://ranchero.com/netnewswire/. Also, Safari allows Mac users to collect RSS feeds without leaving their browser, although a dedicated RSS reader like NetNewsWire is somewhat easier to use if you subscribe to many RSS feeds.
I am not personally familiar with the software available on the Windows side, but a program called FeedReader is available for free from http://www.feedreader.com/. If someone would like to step forward with a recommendation for this group of users for free software, please contact me.
